Join us at DEX Innovation Centre as we spearhead the "Creating Value" Program in collaboration with renowned partners like Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Focused on Value-Based Healthcare (VBHC), our initiative drives collaborative learning and innovation within the healthcare sector. Renowned as one of the best educational programs ever financed by EIT Health, we are shaping the knowledge of future top health professionals.

Participants in the "Creating Value" program benefit from a collaborative ecosystem. They receive workshops, mentorship, and access to industry expert networks. Selected from over 550 applicants, 70 students form teams aiming to implement value-based healthcare in Europe. Training in VBHC principles empowers them to design effective and cost-efficient solutions. Vojtěch Jíra from DEX Innovation Centre emphasizes, "Students should not hesitate to apply and take advantage of the opportunity to learn together from renowned experts as well as from students not only from Europe. To support this, we strive to compose multidisciplinary teams of students from different fields, regions, and levels of knowledge."

The program emphasizes value-based healthcare, ensuring innovations deliver measurable patient benefits while fitting existing systems. It maximizes patient outcomes without sacrificing cost-effectiveness, a key factor in evolving healthcare. Networking opportunities connect participants with healthcare and technology leaders, fostering a supportive environment for testing, refining, and scaling innovations. This collaborative platform enables idea exchange and strategic partnerships, amplifying the program's impact on European healthcare.

Mentors like Jan Kubalík and Vojtěch Jíra from DEX Innovation Centre guide participants, contributing to the program's success. Prestigious institutions like Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Delft University of Technology, and Universidade de Coimbra also play significant roles. The Collaborating Centre for Values-based Practice at St Catherine’s College, Oxford, ensures projects leverage the latest knowledge and practical experience.

DEX Innovation Centre is part of this transformative program and invites you to apply to the "Creating Value" program to be part of the future of European healthcare innovation. We do this together with partners, most notably Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, focusing on Value-Based Healthcare, Collaborative Learning, and Innovation.

Sam Harris Co-Develops Leading Healthcare Training Program

In an exclusive interview, Sam Harris, one of the key figures behind the program, shares insights into the program's conception, its successes, and the value it brings to participants.

How was the idea for this program conceived?

The core reason we developed this programme is that our healthcare systems are under unprecedented pressure. The cost of delivering care is rising at an unsustainable rate, outpacing gross domestic product. Total costs are expected to double by 2050. Both the World Health Organization (WHO) and the OECD estimate that around 30% of healthcare resources are wasted on avoidable complications, unnecessary treatments, or administrative inefficiencies.

We must define new models to deliver healthcare, create more patient-centered products, and integrate financially sustainable approaches. At the heart of this is the concept of value-based healthcare, which is not widely taught and poorly understood. Therefore, we wanted to create a training programme that raises literacy in value-based healthcare while supporting aspiring entrepreneurs in improving key innovation skills. This will lead to a sustainable and robust pipeline of patient-centered healthcare products and services flowing into the European ecosystem, ultimately leading to better health outcomes while reducing inefficiencies and costs.

The programme was one of the most popular education projects in the EIT Health portofolio. In what specific aspects was it the most successful?

This programme generated significant interest, attracting over 500 applicants from more than 60 countries globally, with 70+ participants completing the programme. Receiving such substantial interest in a new programme is rare, which highlights the clear need for top-quality training in entrepreneurship and innovation in the healthcare space, particularly with a focus on developing patient-centered approaches.

Additionally, the project partners include global leaders in education, entrepreneurship, and healthcare, such as The Collaborating Centre for Values-based Practice at St Catherine's College Oxford, TU Delft Centre for Entrepreneurship, and Oxford Universities Hospitals Trust. By combining the complementary expertise of these organizations to design an educational programme, we have developed a truly unique and highly impactful experience.

What value is seen in the program?

The value seen in the program includes:

  • Applying Healthcare Knowledge in a New Context: Participants can leverage their healthcare skills in innovative ways, allowing them to impact a broader patient base beyond traditional roles.
  • Global Networking: The program offers the chance to collaborate with talented individuals from over 45 countries, significantly expanding one's professional network.
  • Turning Ideas into Reality: Participants have the opportunity to develop and realize ideas that could potentially transform patient care globally.
  • Foundation for Further Learning: The program serves as a stepping stone for further education, with examples of alumni progressing to study at prestigious institutions like the University of Oxford.
  • Industry Exposure: Participants gain exposure to leading companies such as AstraZeneca and receive valuable feedback from industry leaders.
  • Certification: On completion, individuals are able to receive a certificate signed by partner organization and EIT Health, a leading European body enabling individuals to build out their portfolios.
