Are you a student or maker ready for a technological challenge?

Do you have experience with Arduino programming OR mechanical design OR electronic design?

Do you want to be part of the development of an emergency lung ventilator?

Join us for a virtual hackathon with borrowed physical equipment from us!

Applications are opened until 30th November 2020, 21:00!

What to expect from DEXIC Hack

The hackathon starts for you with watching the recording of an Introduction session. If you haven't registered as a team already, we will match you with another hacker to form a team or to any of the currently hacking teams.

You will be hacking flexibly anytime (based on your time availability) until 13.12.2020 with borrowed equipment from us for your hack. However, we don't expect you to hack all the time - just imagine spreading time of 1 intensive weekend into smaller parts over a longer time period.

Our mentors with technological knowledge will consult your ideas and guide you to a successful outcome.

On December 14th, we are going to have a dedicated presentation skills workshop. Two days later, on December 16th, you will present your idea with the task to persuade the jury that your idea is the right one.

All common sessions will take place virtually to follow governmental restrictions on COVID-19.

The Story

A year ago, we opened a brand new one-stop-shop for rapid prototyping in the centre of Liberec called DEXIC µFabLab and launched NewGenerationSkills programme with a focus on digital skills.

When COVID-19 hit, we have been thinking about how can we help. Together with many others, we started printing 3D parts for the masks to be used by medical staff. At the same time, Italy and other countries had a problem with a critical shortage of lung ventilators for people suffering severe symptoms of COVID-19.

So we started working on an emergency lung ventilator that will serve as the last instance - when other solutions fail or are not available. The idea is that the ventilator can be almost fully assembled from the parts from a 3D printer and locally available parts. And here we are, introducing the challenge.

The Challenge

This time, you will be focusing on improvement of the emergency lung ventilator.

We bring you 5 challenges related to the improvement of DEXIC Vent.

Overall performance

Challenge any part of mechanical or electronic design to improve the overall performance.

Control by breathing

This mode shall sense airway pressure created by the attempt of the patient to breathe.

Increase the safety!

Safety matters every time, more importantly when talking about life or health.

Health care acceptance

Product needs to be accepted by buyers & end-users. Care about standards and quality.

Optimize what makes sense

Bottom-up innovation can bring great results & value. Innovate whatever you want.

Why Us?

You will get access to almost every piece of equipment from DEXIC µFabLab - 3D printers from Prusa, Voltera for printed circuit boards, Arduino, motors, resistors, wiring, laboratory power stations or artificial lungs. Basically everything you will need for construction of the ventilator from zero!

Applications are opened until 30th November 2020, 21:00!

About EIT Health

EIT Health is a network of best-in-class health innovators backed by the EU. They collaborate across borders to deliver new solutions that can enable European citizens to live longer, healthier lives.

As Europeans tackle the challenge of increasing chronic diseases and multi-morbidity and seek to realise the opportunities that technology offers to move beyond conventional approaches to treatment, prevention and healthy lifestyles, we need thought leaders, innovators and efficient ways to bring innovative healthcare solutions to market. EIT Health addresses these needs.

EIT Health connects all relevant healthcare players across European borders – making sure to include all sides of the “knowledge triangle” so that innovation can happen at the intersection of research, education and business for the benefit of citizens.
